First podium finish for Festante at Vallelunga
VALLELUNGA – The weekend at Vallelunga has been an extremely positive one for Aldo Festante, who scored a 4th place in Race 2 and most of all a brilliant 3rd place in Race 3. The young Italian has now made into the Top 10 in the championship standings, moving from 13th to 10th, and the upper places are now within reach.
Aldo Festante in the third round of the Italian F4 Championship powered by Abarth, held at the Autodromo di Vallelunga on June 23-25, has shown an excellent performance which leads the Italian to his first podium finish in his career. As expected after the positive balance of the test run in Vallelunga last week, Aldo was able to show some great speed from the qualifying sessions, positioning himself in the top places of the grid.
Despite a contact with Sebastian Fernandez in the 6th lap of Race 1, which caused a two grid positions penalty in Race 2, Aldo managed to finish the race in 4th place and redeem himself from the retirement in the opening race.
Race 3 began on the right foot instead. Aldo, started from pole, had lost the leadership at the first corner but then managed to take back the first place thanks to a perfect overtake against his teammate Artem Petrov. The strong beginning of the DR Formula duo was then ruined by a hasty move from the Russian, who caused a contact and relegated Aldo in 4th place. Without losing his calm and showing great temperament the Italian had so carried a desperate recover, despite the damaged suspension, which ended with Festante’s first podium finish in career after a hard fight with Marcus Armstrong.
“It simply was the best weekend I ever had even though we finished with a little bitter disappointment. After the yellow flag which ruined my Qualifying 1, the contact with Fernandez in Race 1 lead the steward to penalize myself with a two position penalty grid in Race 2. In that race, we did not have the same pace of the firsts but we managed to end 4th anyhow. Race 3 was supposed to be our icing on the cake. I was really patient behind Artem after he passed me in the first corner and I waited for the right moment to overtake him. I would have had the power to put some gap but his mistake at the hairpin affected my race. In that contact, I lost the leadership but I also had my suspension damaged. At the end of the day, I managed to end third, which is a result that certainly will bring a lot of motivation for the future. Thanks everyone for the support!”
The next round of the Italian F4 Championship powered by Abarth will take place at Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello on July 14-15-16.
