Festante on the Rookie podium: 2nd position in Race 2 at Estoril
ESTORIL – Despite difficult weather conditions, Aldo Festante marks a good start of the season with a 2nd place in the Rookie class in Race 2 and so reaching the third position in the newcomers standings. In the overall, Aldo ended in 11th position Race 1 (also due to a penalty) while Race 2 10th position, after a good qualifying lap in 7th place.
The first event of the Euroformula Open championship, held from 13 to 15 April on the Portuguese track of Estoril, saw a promising start by Aldo Festante, who has been able to positively face the first experience in the new category.
The race weekend, characterized by adverse weather and difficult track conditions, was a hard test ground for the young driver who gave his best to look for the best result.
The qualifications, in particular Race 2, saw a competitive driver, able to easily settle in the top ten, to aim for a good placement in the race.
The Rookie classification sees Festante in third place, a positive sign that marks the road to follow in.
“A really tough weekend, not the best to start with since the weather’s been inconsistent from the beginning to the end.
After the free practices we were pretty confident for the quali, where I got my best laptime deleted for track limits, it would have assured a place in the top ten, which I conquered in race one but a penalty sent me back to P11.
Q2 was a lot better, a P7 on wet conditions felt like a great result considering my little experience, during the second race I struggled with the tyre-management and I ended up with a top ten and a second place in the rookie trophy which is morally very good! We’ll keep working very hard to be at the top.”
The first stage of the championship is over and the next one is scheduled to take place from 5th to 6th May at the French circuit Paul Ricard.
